Attitudes about Paid Parental Leave in the United States

Paid parental leave offerings in the United States are relatively rare and unequal. Yet, little is known about public opinions paid factors that distinguish adults’ attitudes them. With use of data from General Social Survey, we investigated availability, preferred lengths offerings, government funding States. We found overwhelming support for an average preference four months common at least some leaves. Older more politically conservative individuals were consistently less supportive longer leave, leave. Women, supporters dual-earner expectations, black individuals, those who not working labor typically generous offerings. These findings suggest there have been longstanding desires widespread but this has yet sufficient to prompt widely applicable policy changes across nation.
